Creative direction, shoot production, lifestyle photography, and aerial photography via drone for the City of Escondido’s communications department.

Commercial Photography

Located in North County San Diego, Escondido’s hilly geography encompasses orchards, historic neighborhoods, iconic hiking trails, successful businesses, and sprawling parks. The City of Escondido Communications Department was in need of an updated content library of images that would point both residents and visitors towards these celebrated facets of Escondido with the purpose of promoting local economic development and tourism.

Shoot production spanned two morning and two afternoon sessions on back-to-back production days, incorporated fifteen volunteer models and over a dozen locations throughout Escondido’s city limits as well as outlying unincorporated areas of the city, and heavily featured aerial drone photography in urban, agricultural, and open space settings.

Aerial Photography

Prior to the project, the city lacked aerial assets in their communication and marketing content archives. Due to the compelling nature of drone photography and the diverse environments Escondido offers, it only made sense to heavily feature aerial photography in the project.

Weather contingencies were built into the project contract and utilized when a marine layer that hadn’t been forecasted rolled in on the second production day – effective drone imagery heavily relies on low angle sunlight for creating texture throughout the scene. Production of four 30 minute drone flights were pushed until the next available morning with unobstructed sunlight.
